Marketing Day
Introduction
The marketing day offers a real life, unparalleled insight into the marketing and media side of a professional sports club. The workshops comprise of: media marketing, commercial and brand marketing as well as community/cause related marketing. The day concludes with a formal press conference, complete with attendance by players and officials from the participating sports club.
The course offers an insight into the numerous career opportunities available within professional sports marketing and offers an insight into the demands and talent required to succeed in this highly competitive arena. The day essentially develops student's skills and supports a literacy strategy with various styles of creative writing. In addition the course compliments and expands the GCSE syllabus in Media and Business Studies, as well as being supportive of the English Language core subject. The project is a tremendous confidence builder and prepares students for the sometimes harsh and rapid-fire environment of the workplace.

The second workshop analyses how and why the club promotes their brand, those of their sponsors and how they use their players effectively in a commercial environment. Pupils are encouraged to consider the importance of a Press Conference and Press Releases.
Activity: Prepare for a Press Release for a Club focused event of your choice and prepare for a formal Press Conference with the Club - consider the purpose of the Press Conference, back drop boards, relevant questioning, the use of quotes, confidence and delivery of questions in a quick fire environment.
Workshop 3 - Community Marketing
Students will learn the critical importance of their social responsibility as well as the numerous benefits the club may receive for investment in community focused events and activities. In addition, how the Club engage in the community in a playing and non-playing way along with what tangible and intangible benefits they receive.
Activity: Design a community based plan to promote the club in local schools with a view to both playing the game and non-sports specific activities.
Press Conference
This is a full group activity. A "panel" is created made up of players and officials from the professional sports Club. Local and regional press will be invited to attend where possible and the talent and drive of the pupils will ensure this is a valuable addition to days event.
